How old do you have to be to carry a weapon with parental consent ( if that even matters , i read somewhere it does )

How long of a blade can you have?

Is it legal to carry around a butterfly knife in Florida or a Stiletto knife?

why would you suggest anything without at least looking at what laws may apply?

this is all i found regarding minors, though i only quickly read through the sections:

790.17 Furnishing weapons to minors under 18 years of age or persons of unsound mind and furnishing firearms to minors under 18 years of age prohibited.--

(1) A person who sells, hires, barters, lends, transfers, or gives any minor under 18 years of age any dirk, electric weapon or device, or other weapon, other than an ordinary pocketknife, without permission of the minor's parent or guardian, or sells, hires, barters, lends, transfers, or gives to any person of unsound mind an electric weapon or device or any dangerous weapon, other than an ordinary pocketknife, commits a misdemeanor of the first degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083.

here is a link with additional laws:

you are also subject to municipal and county laws where you live.

and i didnt see a definition for "traditional pocket knife", nor do i see a prohibition on balis.

Not a coincidence. Florida has even more relaxed laws than Texas. I already knew that. Texas allows minors to have ordinary pocket knives; and since the OP seemed to be looking to carry knives as weapons, I suggested a regular pocket knife instead.

You should not have been so quick to attack me with deliberate insult.

It seems you are under 18 still.

I'm not familiar with the Florida laws, but my suggestion would be to get nice traditional pocket knife. Case Trapper comes to mind, or something similar.

You can get some ideas here...

well, which is it?

you say in your first post you are not familiar with florida laws, yet still venture to make a recommendation on what the op should carry.

joe bob,

regarding your email, i do not owe you anything.

your post here, and many of your others, are irresponsible and ill informed.

do not email me again. i have no desire to have any contact with you outside of bfc.

Since when is it an attack or an insult to provide correct technical information? MORIMOTOM is one of our best sources on Knife Laws, since he works with the law professionally and has made the effort to learn to interpret it in real-world terms.

Morimotom, based on the part you quoted:

bah blah blah. . . without permission of the minor's parent or guardian
seems like you could carry one of the prohibited items as a minor with a parent's permission.

But I would definitely check with the local attorney general's office.

it does appear that way prima facie, however i could not find any sections specifically describing legal/possession carry by minors.

Please quote the deliberate insult. I cannot find one in any of morimotom's posts.

Correcting an error is not an insult. It is a correction.

+2

I can't see where any apology is owed by Tom.

Regarless...

Dear Joe-Bob
I apologize for insulting your delicate sensibilities. I hope this matter can consider resolved now and in the future. My office is forwarding you the proper apology paperwork which for insurance purposes must be filled out in triplicate. I will refrain both now and in the future from either insulting, slandering, or dissing your sensibilities.

Love your friend,,

TOM

anyway, hopefully past the drama of previous posts. I am going to Florida for Christmas, I'm 18, what kind of laws am I looking at? Would carrying an Endura 4 get me in trouble?

Keep your Endura clipped to your pocket with the clip and butt of the knife exposed and you should be legal. Florida will even let you carry a fixed blade in a sheath on your belt as long as it is exposed.

I don't know if Florida has a reciprocal agreement with any of the Canadian Provinces as it does with some States for concealed carry of weapons, because that is what it would take to legally carry the Endura deep in the pocket .
