I am going to Brazil at the end of this month. I want to know what are the laws there as regards to carrying a knife. I carry a Spyderco Ambitious with me.
The only way you are going to get the right answer on this one is to call your nearest Brazilian Consulate or make a long distance call to a Brazilian Criminal Code lawyer.
ETA: Sounds to me like a very good excuse not to take anything and buy a "difficult to obtain in the US of A" Brazilian knife.

Apparently, it depends by state. As per the article, in the state of Rio, it seems that under 10 cm and concealed (not in hand) is still legal, if the above cited proposed law is still in place.
I have a friend in Brazil who is an attorney. She said she would look up the law for me. In the meantime, I tried my best with the above.
I know, 10 years later, but hey, this forum popped up when I was doing my search for my own purposes so I figured why not post what I found for future reference. Keep carrying!
