This is not a posted question however a posted answer.

The other day I was fed up with all the conflict on the internet about the canadian knife laws so my resolution was to speak with someone with a LEO background namely an OPP officer.

The officer's answer compacted down was (asides from the knives outlawed in the penal code auto's,double edge...) if carried openly it's legal he didn't say anything about size restriction or there being a reason needed (although it goes without saying that if you are caring a "tactical" blade you don't say that it's for anything of a combative nature).

I hope this helps and even though i've said this i would still recommend checking with your local LEO.

I imagine its all about why youre carrying....

If youre in the downtown or shopping at your local mall whats the reason to carry one?
If youre heading out to the lake/camping/hunting/hiking etc it makes more sense as to why you carry a fixed blade.
Now I live in saskatoon and EDC a spyderco blade....of course its in my pocket so technically hidden so is this illegal?
Its only got a 2.5inch blade so I feel Its fine but im not 100% sure.
I reckon if you get stopped by the LEOs if its a young one out for promotion and out to impress youll lose it, maybe an older LEO he might not want the paperwork.

I guess have a reason and dont stand there thinking about it if you get stopped.

If he said that double edged knives and concealed carry is illegal, I wouldn't put too much trust in anything he said.

Ask another cop and you'll likely get another answer.
Seriously, go try it out.
Many of them do not know the laws regarding knives. There's just too many laws for police officers to keep track of all of them.

What he said.
As a firearms owner and knife user, I make it my business to know the law. After all, my ass is on the line. I've read C-68 (law that governs guns and knives) three times, cover to cover.
Most cops are acting on what they "think" is illegal when it comes to knives, and guns as well.

The cop the OP spoke to, didn't know the law, as written. He's what I'd call a bullshitter.
