Knife laws in Cayman Islands (Grand Cayman) - any info appreciated

Traveling to the Cayman Islands in the near future. I did a search on the forums as well as looked at what is available online for Cayman Islands/Grand Cayman and did not turn up much.

The usual bans on "flick knives, switchblades" etc. as well as quite a few gun restrictions but...not much else.

It is a combo family/dive trip so I will be bringing along my dive kit (dive knives seem well tolerated) but I usually like to carry a large folder around as a utility knife and food prep knife. Any knowledge about how this is tolerated by local law enforcement?

By what is published it seems there are no clear restrictions on a folder you carry in your pocket BUT, given how restrictive mainland British law is re: pocketknives I am left to wonder how this British territory handles these things.

Any info is appreciated.

Thanks, Mark

My info is old, as the last time I was in the Cayman Islands was 1999 for a live-aboard dive trip on the Cayman Agressor.

I went to the Caymans in 1976, 1990, 1994 and the live-aboard where I simply transited from the airport to the docks and back.

In addition to the 2 dive knives I had with me on each trip, I also had my venerable Buck 110 for the 1976 and 1990 trips and a Buck 112 for the 1994/1999 trips. No one said a thing.

Thanks zzyzzogeton. Much appreciated. Back from the trip and can add some info:

1) I was told by two different dive operations that the whole of Grand Cayman is a marine park and dive knives are not permitted. That said, diving with a standard set up which included a knife drew little notice (before I was told about the restriction). That said, there is nothing explicitly banning dive knives on the Cayman Islands DOE site wrt the marine parks either. In the end, could be true, could be misinformation.

2) Although the knife laws, as written, seem to provide a relatively unrestricted environment there are far fewer people carrying knives around town than in the U.S. Having read the laws and while following them to the best of my knowledge I did carry an Emerson Super Commander around 24/7 with no issues. Continue to be very impressed with this knife BTW...

Happy diving,
Mark
