KNIFE LAWS IN FLORIDA

I posted this on the law section, but I figured I'd have a broader audience here. My question is for anyone out there who has had firsthand experience with butterfly's in South Florida. I'd love to carry one of my 42's as an everyday pocket knife but would hate to have it confiscated by the police due to a traffic stop.I've looked up the actual written laws pertaining to concealed weapons/knives(the closest thing it has to carrying a butterfly) and to say the least it's not very clear. If anyone out ther e has some info it would be appreciated.

I'm pretty sure they're okay in Florida. Some of the people on this forum are from Florida and carry theirs. If it's not okay, then you can just get a concealed weapons license. That'll let you carry just about any knife (or gun) you want.

I may be mistaken, but, as I recall, Florida offers a Concealed Weapons License to eligible citizens that is quite broad and includes knives and balisongs. So, just get your CWL and you're good to go.

Keep in mind that many states offer concealed firearms or concealed handgun licenses which are specific only to guns and DO NOT extend to knives. Only a few states offer broader Concealed Weapons Lincenses.

Yeah, as I read it, the Fl CWL lets you carry everything from guns to knives, Sap Gloves, brass knuckles, I think it even mentions short swords. There is a HUGE list of the things you can carry, unfortunately I still have to wait 1 more year before I can get mine. Thank goodness for Gore not getting in or CWL might have been outlawed.

I won't get into the Bush - Gore thing, thats a real hornets nest. But do remember this, half the country does not want Bush in the White House, and the other half dosen't want Gore in there....

Does any know if Va has a conceled weapons permit, or just a concealed gun permit? I would love to be able to carry my 42 (When it gets here) concealed.

Actually, strictly speaking...the USA Today Map that was once available for viewing had a county by county breakdown for voting.

The Cities and counties directly surrounding them were for Gore.

Outside of America's Logic Free Zones, The Democrat Party Platform does not play too well.

Carry on...

And the same goes for a knife...
And, I'm a Usual Suspect.

why not carry your bm 42 in the belt sheath...that way u have access to it and most places say that it isnt concealed if carried openly on the belt...

Who me? I learned that the cops in this area know that they are leagal, but they don't like them. The bug the knife stands that sell them at our monthly flea market (First Saturday) in the next town north of me. So if I carry it in the open, I may get questioned about it. Va state law; If a weapon comes into court for any reason, you don't get it back most of the time. Then again, I have been known to carry a Gill Hibben throwing axe on my side into town, the local stores.....

By the way, there is at least one Gretna cop who does not like me! He pulled me for having my tailgate on my truck down! What he saw: White, head shaved kid in a camo Ranger going down main street with a rifle and a sword in the back glass, with a CIA looking ear peace of my cell phone in my ear. He was black, but I don't beleave that race was an issue, color of my truck maybe, but not my skin. Why does he not like me, I broke no law, and his chief gave him a lecture!

Hehe, It's not quite that easy down here, alot is left up to the judgement of the officer, wheter it is right or wrong. You can have a rifle in your back window, but if they find a pistol in the glovebox you are in some serious trouble without a CWL. I don't have a gun in my car but I always have a bali or two on me and tucked between the passenger seat and the center console I have a short sword (about 3 ft long) in a kydex sheath. It is positioned so that anyone looking in from driver window won't notice it. I've been stopped twice and found that if are normal and not all freaked out you won't have any problems.

I'm from Central Florida, and I generally second the opinion of the guy from Crystal River. A lot is left to the cop's judgement. I've spoken to some cops and they seem more interested in the length of the blade,(more than 4" is a no no) than in the way it opens. I would say that if you are lucky and were born in a lighter shade you don't need to worry about bieng searched by the police. I carried a bali for a couple of years and had no problem, but I confess I didn't show it to any cops. I'm 43 years old and have never been searched by the police, so I don't worry much if the knife I carry is legal or not.
If the police consider you a 'bad' guy you will have trouble no matter what you carry. So convince them with your demeanor and lifestyle that you are a 'good' guy.

Don't ignore the truth just because it's obvious

A gun in the glove box is a no no here as well.
