I would like to get a balisong and a stilletto switchblade. Are they legal in IL? I heard that they arent, but they sell them at my local army surplus, and they give them to you at 18+

Allow me to refer you to Mr. Levine's indispensible law resource:
Knife laws of the states- IL

My quick take on this is that you shouldn't carry a switchblade at all, or anything with a double edge or highly "pointy", or anything over 3". Its my guess that large cities have even more restrictive laws. Of course, don't do anything stupid that would give the police a reason to stop you in the first place.

Danzz is right: the switchblade is definitely out. A balisong is extremely iffy to carry; you might get by with a double edge if it's tiny and harmless; that's up to a lot of LEO interpretation.

Chicago follows the same rules pretty much as Illinois. Most of Chicago's police officers tend to be a little leniant based on who you appear to be and what you might be doing with the knife.
