Hi guys,

A friend of mine will be traveling through Indonesia for a month this year, three weeks Java and one week Bali, and he asked me if I knew a bit of knife laws in Indonesia. I don't know, but are people here who can tell me about it, or point me to a source where I can read more about it?

Thanks,
Harayasu

Very much a gray area. I was in Jakarta last year and I carried a double-edged fixed blade karambit and an Emerson karambit at all times, along with a neck knife and a SAK. I walked through dozens of metal detectors without issue (even though I beeped to high hell). lol

Okay, thanks the reply. He probably has to be a bit careful in the cities I think, just like cities in Europe, the US, China or wherever. At the country side and jungle it will probably be not a big problem to carry knives.

Great to hear that the guards behind the metal detectors didn't care about you carrying those knives. They would respond very different here in Europe.

They're really only looking for bombs in Indonesia--security may have tightened up after the Jakarta bombs last year though.
