Knife laws in NYC / Manhattan

Am I allowed to have (not carry) a 4 in fixed blade in Manhattan? How about placing it in checked luggage?

I'll be going to Manhattan, and a friend of mine will ship me a BRKT Bravo 1 that then I will take with me in a commercial flight to South America. Any one know of any restrictions I might face?
 
We'll make this simple.

Get a Spyderco UKPK or other slip joint.

Don't carry with a clip.

Don't carry a locking folder.

Unless they raid wherever you're staying you should be fine. I could stock my house full of auto's and not get in trouble unless they had a good reason to search the place. The problem is carry and transportation of the knife.

Getting it on the airplane might be a different story. "Rules" and "Restrictions" are open to interpretation of the person screening you.

I'd say ship it to wherever you're going.
