Knife Laws in OC

I am just wondering, what is the deal about the knife laws in CA. I mean I have been reassured by the knowledgeable posts of individuals, such as Jim March, that in CA any length folding knife is legal...and that you can carry concealed...fixed blades can be carried openly, and so on. I am not trying to in any way insinuate that Mr. March doesn't know his laws. I am pretty sure judging by his website that he does. It is just hard for me to believe that I can carry concealed a knife as ferocious as the Sifu. Many of my friends think that I am out of my mind for think that I can carry that beast. While still being withing the confines of the law.

I was wondering if the above mentioned facts apply to all cities, or can a 3 inch knife be illegal in one town and then there be no limit two miles away.

Where can I find the laws for cities in Orange County.

Finally on a totally unrelated topic. If you read this Jim where can I get one of those sheaths that you have on your webpage,
and what is the price.

Thanks, Poniard

Jim is absolutely correct with regard to California state laws regarding knives. For more info on local laws, which may be more restrictive, try this link (borrowed from Jason's post in another thread): http://www.findlaw.com/california/ca01_codes/municode.html

Believe it or not, state law is that lax- you can conceal any length manual folder, and fixed-blades are open carry only, no matter how long (yes, that includes swords

).

Some cities have more restrictive length limits (e.g., Oakland, Berkeley, Fremont, LA, Davis), Orange isn't one of them.

For a second, though identical, opinion, go to Bernard Levine's knife law page at http://pweb.netcom.com/~brlevine/ca.txt . There you will find the penal code sections cut and pasted from the state legislature's website (linked below). I sent them in to him, and he got everything right except he still has the outdated 3.5" limit listed under 626.

If you want to check out state laws yourself, which would be a good idea for everybody who's not sure, go to the state legislature's website at www.leginfo.ca.gov/calaw.html Search the Penal Code for "knife." You'll get a bunch of hits, all in lawyer language. The most relevant sections are 653k & 12020, and 626.10 for carrying at schools. Don't trust a bunch of people you don't know on the internet telling you all kinds of things, find out for yourself. Let us know if we've missed anything.

Oh, and Poniard, I've seen Jim March's Sifu sheath in action and it's faster than anything I've seen- it's out and open in way under a second.

Jason,
You wouldn't happen to know where I could purchase Jim's sheath,(or some kydex for that matter).

Thanks for all the help by the way

Jim made the sheath himself. I don't think he's selling them. But if he doesn't respond here soon you can email him, or search the REKAT forum, I remember he posted detailed plans for how he made it. I don't know where to get kydex, but you can find out somewhere on the forums.
