Hey guys, I just want to get a couple knives to add to my (small, so very small in every way) collection. I don't know much about the laws here though.

I have my eyes on a nice knife with a six and a half inch blade, or one with an eight and a half inch. Both from the web. I'm not even sure if that's legal to buy though, I heard somewhere that a 6" blade is the biggest you can own here. No idea what the carry limit is, but I have no intention of taking it anywhere.

I've tried to search the Canadian government websites, but the only refernces to knives I could find was saying that autos and knives that open by centrifugal force are illegal. These are fixed blades so that doesn't apply.

Can any Canadian provide any insight?

Thanks,
DWF

If you do a search under Criminal Code or something similar, you'll find a wealth of detailed information that has already been posted.
In short, the law in Ontario is governed, mostly, by the federal Criminal Code which applies throughout Canada. There is no limitation or prohibition based on the length of a blade. But certain kinds of knives are prohibited or restricted [and it's unlikely that a fixed blade that isn't a push dagger will be a problem] but there are laws, which are complex, against carrying a "concealed weapon" etc. These latter restrictions have nothing to do with your right to purchase permissible knives, however.
