Hi,
I' m a German and am going to spend 3 weeks in South Carolina with my relatives in a few days and need help with the knife laws there.
I tried looking them up and also checked out the sticky thread with the links here but don' t really understand what was written there as my English is not good enough for that.
So all I' m asking now is what I am allowed to carry in South Carolina because I really don' t want to risk any trouble on my vacation.
Thanks for any help!

Because of a law passed not more than a year or two ago, South Carolina effectively allows you to carry any knife you please (SECTION 16-23-460 of SC State Code). Technically even switchblades are allowed, though taking one from Germany into the US I think violates a Federal Law.

Some counties and cities in SC may or may not have their own knife laws, so you may have to look more specifically in the area you are headed to.

I wrote this essay/guide a while back on the practical considerations of knife carry in the US that go beyond the written laws. You may find some useful advice there: http://weaponlaws.wikidot.com/start

Thank you very much for that!
All I plan on carrying is a Böker Trance and a Victorinox Hiker and as far as i know the city I will be heading to doesn' t have any special laws as it is very small. But I will still look it up if there is anything special there. Thanks again
