hello,
i´m going on a field trip with my university in march. I´m from Germany and american knife laws aren´t exactly my strong suite. I don´t know exactly what kind of knife will be allowed to carry. I´ve read the article in this forum and the highroad but i´m still not sure what is legal to carry with me and what not. If i carry the knife in my front pocket, is that concealed carry? Is it ok if i carry either of the four knives in my backpack? We are travelling the following states. Tennesse, Mississippi, Alabama, N Carolina, Georgia and Florida. Is is possible to take one of the four knives with me in every state?
Your help would be much appreciated.
Best wishes from Bavaria

Don't know the specific statutes or the sizes of these knives, but in North Florida and South Georgia you could probably carry all four at one time. Especially outside airports, large cities and tourist traps (Ooops! the chambers of commerce call them "attactions" now).

I suspect you will be amazed at how many folks carry knives in the South. Front pocket carry is COMMON for knives that fit. I EVERY day carry a mini-griptilian clipped in my front pocket.

Be cool and you'll likely have no hassles.

I am from South Carolina we recently changed the law that limited knifes to 2 inch blades. That said even before the law was changed I carried a knife over 2 inches regularly and never had any issues.I daily carry a Spyderco Endura, Koster K5 Karda a leatherman micro and Case sodbuster or Large stockman and sometimes on the weekend I add a Busse AD or Meaner street or a Koster K4 Karda in a sheath on my Belt and I haven't had any trouble yet.
Their is a more restrictive environment around government buildings these days and I would not carry them out to a bar or other attractions as mrjed said but other than that I would say as long as you don't bring attention to your self in other ways and are reasonably discreet you should have any issues.Of course you could always get the rare butthole and bear in mind that you will probably have more issues in the more urban areas rather than the rural ones.I think the fixed blades would probably be more accepted than the folders as they are less tactical looking but you probably won't have any issues with any of them.

Thank´s for the info so far. I guess i will take the Rat Izula with me as an edc, to ride in my front pocket. We are most of the time in the woods to learn something about american forestry. There it shouldn´t be a problem. If we hit a bar the izula stays at home.

Oh Mercy! In the woods in the South? You are EXPECTED to be carrying a knife of substance.
