Can anyone give me some insight on what the carry laws are there? What is legal, what isn't? Permits necessary or not? Thanks!

Like any laws, you must obey state laws first, then any relevant county and city laws. After that, you must comply with the policy of any establishment you enter (such as a casino), for while they do not carry the force of law, they are legally permitted to bar you from entry or eject you from the premises.

State law first:
No switchblades at all. Not even owning.
No concealed carry of dirks, daggers, machetes or belt-buckle knives.

Clark County law:
No concealed carry of a knife with a blade more than 3 inches long.

Las Vegas city law:
It is illegal to loiter, get in fights, or engage in disorderly conduct while carrying any "Dangerous or deadly weapons" which includes many types of sharp instrument. Keep in mind that you have to already be breaking the law in order for this to apply.

Once again, many establishments may have metal detectors and may have even stricter rules. It is on you to determine ahead of time if an establishment has such rules.

I know in order to get to the top of the Stratosphere, you must pass through a metal detector. There is a sign that says no weapons.
