I came across what I would describe as a knife like object made from what appeared to be an old craftsman wrench. Anyone know if it's even possible to heat treat a wrench? They do look interesting.

I don't see why it wouldn't work. It might not be as good as the super steels, but 99% of people can get by just fine with 440. Some of these tool steels would probably be just fine as knife steel anyways. It all depends.
