Are there any benefits to purchasing specialty knife lubes? I typically use Hoppes No. 9 or sometimes I will just use a random 3 in 1 oil.

Astro glide.....lol. Lot of folks swear by nano lube for folders, I use whatever gun oil I have at the moment on folders or mineral oil on fixed blades if I am going to ever use it on food.

Just use mineral oil. It has 3 advantages over any "premium oil".

-it's cheap
-it comes by the pint
-it's food safe

And honestly, I don't see any difference between mineral oil, tuff glide, or Militec. Now if we're talking about guns, that's a different story, I don't eat with my 1911.

Isn't Hoppes #9 a bore solvent? I know they make oil too, but I thought it was called something else. I wouldn't use the solvent on a knife....I have been using it on guns forever though, and will continue to do so!

When it comes to oil I just use whatever's around. I just don't use too much. A little oil is good. Too much oil attracts dust and makes an abrasive paste.

I do use mineral oil on blades that cut food. It's food safe and works fine.

Froglube is really outstanding and food safe, too. When I'm out of froglube I use liberals' tears.
