Knife lubes and woodworking tools

I'm getting into woodworking, and I was wondering if any knife lubricants are good to use on my saws and chisels. Is Breakfree CLP or mineral oil OK or do they stain the wood?

Also, does anyone have experience with Teflon-type sprays like this one?

I'm no expert on this, but have relatives who build furniture and they like Camellia oil for tools. Lee Valley is a reputable outfit, so I imagine that DriCote does what it says too.

I've never seen simple mineral oil stain wood so long as you wipe off any excess before use, but mine isn't the critical eye of a serious woodworker.

You may need a rust preventative rather than a lubicant. I've always used RIG a preservative grease designed mostly for firearms but I use it for tools , knives etc.A very light coating is all you need. You can also wrap the tools in VPI paper [vapor phase inhibitor].

Why wouldn't good old WD40 do a good job? I've used it for years on all kinds of metal tools, guns, etc., with good effect.

I also do some woodworking, my favorite rust preventative on saws and chisels is past wax,,,,I like Butcher's Bowling Alley past wax, two coats and the tools will not rust. Avoid wax containing silicone, it may react with wood finishes. The Butchers is carnauba and othe waxes in turpentine and mineral spirits.

It also helps lubricate a saw when cutting hard woods.

You have to be careful putting anything silicone based on woodworking tools. Getting silicone contamination on the wood can give you fits when you go to apply a finish.
