Knife lubricant help

Hey guys, so recently I went on a dune buggy ride in some dunes and happened to drop my Buck 110. There was sand in the joint between the blade and handle. I got all of the sand out by using a fine bristled brush, but it also took the factory lubricant off with it. I am wondering what other lubricants I can use. Will WD-40 work, or will it gunk up like some other lubes?

Thanks

There are literally hundreds and hundreds of ways to lubricate a knife. You can use mineral oil, gun oil, dry lube (graphite), run it dry, you can use fluorinated grease, lithium grease, axle grease, etc. If you search the forums here, you can find a couple hundred threads each praising something different and others downplaying the same thing. It's just personal preference, use what you have, no need to get into super fancy stuff as in the end it all does the same thing.

Baby oil man.. I got mine at the grocery store huge bottle for a couple bucks

My go to lube is Fluid Film. I don't bother with much else these days. I've tried most of the stuff out there over many years and as far as bang for the buck it can't be beat.

I use BreakFree CLP, have for decades. A tiny drop is all you need.

I recently bought this bc a forum member suggested I use it for my new m4 manix. I put some on the pivot, left it alone for the next day and wow. Smooth deployment! It just had a nice feel when opening and closing the blade.

I find that it depends on the knife. Some respond better than others to different lubrication methods. For example, my Caly 3.5 loves Tuf-Glide, but the stuff doesn't work as well in my Para 2 (it seems to prefer fluorinated grease).

I used to use Marvel Mystery oil, that's some really slick stuff :) Lately I've been using "Quantum Hot Sauce", a fishing reel oil, with very pleasing results. But I've also had my eye on "Nano-oil" by StClaire, intresting stuff that, intresting enough to give it a try.
