i don't believe this has been discussed.
There was mention made of a blade from the show "naked and afraid" in another thread, and i was curious to see what everyone thought and make it a stand alone thread.

personally i think it's grotesque, likely cumbersome, and would never carry it let alone pay for it. haha
still i like seeing peoples experiments, and this certainly qualifies.
The "spur knife" is the main part that seems crazy to me. particularly the suggestion that it could be use for skinning.
i also don't like the saw. or manu hook.
and how on earth do the physics work on "putting a dowel or branch in the lanyard hole for intensive digging and sawing"
basically i don't like anything that changes it from being a standard chopper haha, parang, khukri, machete, etc.... i'll take any of them over this thing anytime.

that being said, i am sure it has its merits, and am curious to hear your thoughts?

also i'm fascinated now to see what the sheath will look like! with all these "bells and whistles" i can only imagine what they might try and turn it into!!!
definitely curious about that.

I don't hate it but I don't think I am gonna rush to buy one either. I kinda dig the unsharpened hook though. I can see where it would be nice for that little bit of extra reach to snag branches/vines without cutting them or snag stuff just out of reach even if only for the conveiniance of not having to jump up in the bed of the truck :)

I'm reminded of a machete used in a movie featuring a somewhat popular Hispanic actor.

Constructive Criticism:

Manu Hook: Take it out as it's not needed. the user needs to grab that part of the knife when making fine feather sticks.

Ferro Rod: It's too risky as its near the point of the spur edge and the top blade. the top ricasso before the saw can be used for that.

Scandi and Convex bevels: Just make it all convex. in the long run the scandi part will get convex anyway due to sharpening.

Spur knife: Good idea but a chisel grind would benefit that. and make the tip a modified sheeps foot.

The point of the gut hook is to cut hide without opening the intestines.

Now we give the gut-side of the gut-hook a nice sharp edge.

What am I missing here?

Well the gut side is for skinning of course! can't you read the specs?!

haha you are totally right, it makes no sense whatsoever

MMMMmmmmmm contaminated meat........

The sawback prevents it from being used to baton wood or baton through bone to get the marrow. The spur could get in the way of cutting and probably doesn't do a good job compared to a knife without one. I really think it is gimmicky. While I don't try to fault someone for trying to make a living, she's appeared in two survival reality shows (the "Caveman" show and Naked and afraid) so I'm leery about a knife being marketed by someone who makes the rounds in these types of shows.

That thing has to be some kind of a joke, Right? They can't be serious.

If not, then the person who came up with the "spur knife" for skinning hasn't skinned anything except maybe a banana in their life.

This is what happens when a committee designs a knife using Lean Six Sigma and five MBAs. Once you've found room for a dozen features, you've compromised every one of them.

1. The baton surface is near the tip and at a 45 degree angle. Useless.
2. The bottle opener is too far from the hand for proper leverage. You'll saw off a finger before you get your beer open.
3. The ferro rod area is also fraught with danger from the sharp point in the direct vicinity.
4. The handle isn't designed for using the saw. You'd cramp up before you even cut through the bark.

Now, the idea of a large lanyard hole for utilitarian purposes isn't bad. It's an inobtrusive feature, so even if it's useless it's not a hindrance.

The hook idea isn't bad either, but there isn't a whole lot of snagging potential and you can't punch a hole in, say, a coconut with it, but the general idea isn't bad. Execution leaves something to be desired.

I forgot while writing this that this was a knife with an actual cutting edge. I suppose that might work, if the thing doesn't fly out of your hand due to crap ergonomics.

With all that said, I'll bet this thing will sell like crazy.

so i can put you down for an order in each colour? haha

I thought this was the chick who caught dengue fever. All in all, wouldn't be bad blade with that almost bolo-esque profile, without all the extra stuff added on.

Capitalizedliving said it best.

I love it, its so totally fantastic, its just total and utter genius level invention...
Im surprised they didnt add 1% silver so they can market the blade as Warewolf effective along with other mythical creatures and coat the blade with some garlic oil so its even rated for vampires.

All it really needs now is a night vision gen3 150x telescopic sight and I would totally buy one.

Wonder why im so snarky...
Read about the "inventor" behind it... and then come to your own conclusion if you would trust anything this women does or says related to survival...
She claimed she was a Veteran who saw deployment over seas and combat when she is not...

Thank you for that link. Some of the material there was hilarious:

"Served the Australian Army for over 8 years. Trained and worked 4 years in combative Operations Deployment Forces with Infantry as Transport Support and Infantryman."

Toigo was never more than a Private Driver and a Private Dental Assistant. Her only "Combative Operations" would have been protecting bicuspids and molars from dental decay.
