Which ones are your guys favorites?

If you were going to subscribe to one, which one would it be?

There are 4 generally available ones.

Knife World, which is a newspaper like magazine with great stories about mainly traditional folders and older hunters and military knives. Bernard Levine writes for it a lot.

Blade is the big boy. Slick paper, good pictures, okay articles. Lots of custom stuff. New makers features and knife show information.

Tactical Knives. Good mag. Focuses (at least from what I've seen) more on production knives and, uhm, "tactical knives" :) . Probably my favorite.

Knives Illustrated. I don't really know why its my least favorite. But its a decent slick paper deal.

Keep in mind that they are generally like Guns & Ammo type magazines. They've never met a knife that they didn't give a good review to. You will get better real world info here, but I still like to read them.

I think you can get subcriptions to them through Amazon, although you might have to go to KnifeWorlds website to get that.

I get Blade Mag now, use to real all the others but no more. I should get knife world again its really a good paper for reading about history of knives etc
Good knife hunting

Out of all of them, I prefer Blade and Knife World. Tactical Knives has some good articles, Knives Illustrated is okay. Blade has great photos, and it is basically a catalog, except for sections like Kim Breeds test articles, and Ed Fowlers prose, he is a great storyteller. I like the KNIFE I CARRY section, and seeing what everyone carries. Again the photography is superb. As far as Knife World goes, I like the down home feel of the newspaper, and I like Bernard Levines column, and the classifieds.

I used to get Blade, I was just wondering what else is out there.

I think I will just subscribe to Blade again.

Anyone know if Knives Illustrated is available in Canada and if so, where? I've been searching everywhere for it to no avail.

Tracker81, yes, Knives Illustrated is sold in Canada. I got one in my Christmas stocking. Santa bought it somewhere in the Vancouver area. ;)
This issue (Feb.06....bizarre! it's still Dec.05!) has an informative article on the inner workings of various brands of assisted openers. There is also a pull-out 2006 calendar with very nice photos!
$6.50 tag.

I have the first year of Blade and have been taking since then. I like Knives Illustrated, but in my opinion, it lost a little when Bud Lang left. I need to do some more looking at Knife World I guess.

I've only purchased one knife mag ever and that was the February 06 Blade. I am thinking about getting a subscription but it may be better to buy it from my local knife store since it will give me an excuse to browse the display case.

Sorry to pick up on this a bit late Tracker81. Seeing as you are in in my area:) , I haven't seen one in a while, but I used to get it at World News which is by the LRT station on 7th Ave and 1st St. S.W., just west of Billy's New's on the same block. Only place I've been able to get one - they also have Blade and Tactical Knives there.

Hope this helps - gord

Personally I was rather partial to Knives Illustrated but I have since then switched to Blade because of availability. Up until Tracker81 posed the question I thought it had gone out of print. Knife mags here in my part of Canada are becoming more and more scarce on the shelves so I figure I'll end up subscribing soon. Currently I like to be able to leaf through the mag before buying it. IT's not often I choose not to buy it but sometimes I'll pick Tactical Knives instead of Grappling magazine. Cheers all.

Tactical is far and above my favorite. I really like their articles they have in every issue about the "STEEL BIN" and they also keep up on Sharpening and maintenance with a perpetual article called "The Keen EDGE". Michael Janich who is one of my very favorite knife writers does a lot of articles for "Tactical Knives"

Now KNIFE WORLD is a very unique publication. I have found some of the more obscure stuff about older knives and interesting innovations that you just don't see in the other big 3. Those are my 2 favorites but I do read all 4 of them. I do agree with the one brother that they never met a knife they didn't like. There is certainly a lot of stuff you got to let go out the other ear :D

Anyone remmeber Fighting Knives? I really enjoyed that magazine, could say it fueled my addiction but then so does breathing! Definitely on the cutting edge ( pun intended ) of what was then a new thing, production and custom fighting knives.
