Hi all:

I have been tossing around the idea of trying to create a website that has individual profiles for custom knifemakers. I am not aware of one anywhere on the web, so if somebody has already made one let me know. Right now its just an idea, so I thought I would throw it out on the forum to see if there would be any interest. Any suggestions would be great.

Also if I posted in the wrong thread I am sorry, not sure if this is where I should post or not but it seemed like the best place to get a hold of makers.
Thanks

I can't imagine any maker would decline exposure (not that kind IG).

You may want to develop some kind of form / template becasue this could quickly grow into a huge task to maintain.

I'm interested.

I have a little experience doing some web design, I have been tinkering around with it since high school. I think that I could create a form. What do you think would be good put in it? Maybe a photo of the maker, a description and say 5 of his best or latest knives? and a link to the maker's site if they have one. If you want to see my site its www.garrisonknife.com
I could make it something similiar in design.

Just thought I'd say "hi" :). It's nice to see some makers in the area. There aren't many of us :).

About four years ago I registered a domain name that may be suitable! www.theknifemakers.com.
What you have in mind is something I had in mind when I registered it! Just simple reference! Maker's name, profile, types of knives, contact info!

Hi Folks-

Sounds like a great idea. One word of caution though. Forms like this are open to the public and there are some real sickos out there. I would suggest placing some type of screening or approval method on these pages. I have done something similar to this before and had to take it down. You would not believe the crap that some people post.

I may have something that will work. The only problem is, people have to have an account added for them before they can post.

I'm up on a site that has individual profiles and picts for custom makers. Not sure if I'm supposed to post links here since it's not free but it is screened so it keeps the sicko's out.
Mark...?

I would be more than willing to help out. I work on computers for a living, and I make knives as a hobby right now. I dabble in webpages that are dynamic. Meaning that all of the data are stored in a database and then accessed through the website. It would not be very difficult to make this dynamic; however, you would need some way to "verify" the maker and that the information is valid and not just some perve posting their data. Let me know if you would like my help. I can be contacted at the emails below:

how would you suggest making a dynamic page? on my current site I use sql and php to keep track of my knives....is that what you would use or do you have something else in mind?

I would be interested to see what you have. An account might be a great way to screen some people. If it was a premium site I think that would also discourage random disturbing postings. However charging money might also seriously decrease the popularity of the profiles.
