What kind of shop experience do you have? What kind of grinds are you doing? What kind of equipment do you grind on? What kind of knives do you make? Please let me see drawings, etc. You have drawn knives? What kind of steels are you interested in?
You're welcome to come to my shop to learn if you're able during the weekdays. I don't work weekends. I trade equal time, teaching/you making your knives for shop work. But I have to know you are shop competant and have knife designs/ideas first. And I am always honest up front about the work you're trading, the jobs I give you aren't fun/clean/easy/rewarding/interesting. Tedious jobs, and you'll go home tired, dirty, and itching like crazy. Can't blame me for that. Lots of dirty jobs turning barstock into cutlery.
Also, please accept that I can ask you not to return for any unexplained reason what so ever. This is my home afterall.
The GA Knifemakers Guild is another good resource, full of members that can help, who are way better makers than myself. (Almost everyone is.)
Sorry for being so stiff, but I've had guys come by that couldn't drill a hole and had never drawn a knife. I had to watch their every move, and couldn't get my work done at all. I'm not interested in running a knifemaking daycare service. If you are tool competant, and willing to work, I have no problem teaching the little that I've gleaned.
