I was just wondering if there are any knife makers in Kansas on this forum. It would be nice to be able to have someone local to talk to about knife making, share info with, and help each other out.

Check out the Kansas Custom Knifemakers Association. WWW.Kansasknives.org

You also might want to see about coming to the ABS Heartland Hammer In. The date will be Oct. 6 and 7 at Washburn Technical College in Topeka. Information is on the Kansas knives site and on the ABS site, www.americanbladesmith.com

I'm from Kansas as well. Actually from Lawrence, so not too far from you. I've been wanting to attempt to make my own knives for a long time, and have just been reading everything I can. I would be of no help to you whatsoever, but I'd like to talk with and meet some experienced guys as well.

You all need to come to the Heartland Hammer In. There will be makers of all experience levels plus very good seminars. It does not matter if you belong to the ABS or not. Just be interested or fanatical about custom knives.

Brion's right you need to come to the Heartland hammer-in and check out the KCKA website. If nothing else you and take a drive to my place in Diller Ne and I'll get you started.

There are several in your area - including Ottawa, Olathe, and Lawrence.
I got to meet Steve Culver last fall, but was not able to make it to the hammer-in, and I'll be missing it again this year to my dismay.
