Any knife makers in NE Ohio?

I am stepping into knife making, and would like to talk with or visit a maker in my area. I have yet to make a knife, but have been searching and reading everything I can possibly find. I have some equipment, picking up a grinder Monday from Beaumont, abrasives will be ordered this week as well. By the end of the month, I hope to have everything set up and ready to go. Equipment doesn't make a maker, it's the hands on stuff that does. I am looking for someone that would be willing to share their skills and knowledge with me.

Oddly enough, I have become enamored with slippies. I like the simplicity and the elegance of them, which is in sharp contrast to what I have carried for the last several years. I have owned exactly one in my life, when I was around seven or so, that was taken away from me after I cut the tip of my finger off. I have never owned one or carried one since. I have told myself lately to go buy one, but I would rather put something into my pocket that I have made rather than store bought. So the next slippie I will own will be of my own making.

Thank you to the forum and all its members.

Hello A-,

There are a few makers in NE Ohio but many of them do not visit BF. You would be suprised to know that there is a local knife club, Western Reserve Cutlery Association, and they meet the second Tuesday of each month is Doylestown. A handful of makers attend every meeting.

I am in the Norton/Barberton area and have been making knives for a couple of years. Last month I drove down to Beaumont an picked up a KMG so I am learning some new tricks on it. I have an open door and would not mind sharing ideas. Let me know and we can look at our schedules.

I'm in the same boat as you brother. New maker in NE Ohio. I live in mentor. I'm about to finish my first knife, just need to get handles on it. I thought it was ruined but Chad Pirtle was nice enough to let me come by and he helped me out and now it's looking good.

I'm really new to it all but I'd be glad to help you with anything I could. On tuesday nights in burton there is an open forge thing, I went to my first one last tuesday and I'll be going this tuesday as well, you should check it out. Shoot me an email if there is anything I can do for you, futzbrown@yahoo.com

I appreciate the invitations. I have sent PM's or emails to the two of you. Thanks again.
