I have a knife on order and cant decide between the knife makers recommendation of Cru Forge V or O1. I really respect this maker and he has made me several great knives from 52100. He said he is doing a lot of knives from Crue v and likes it. But I am leaning towards O1. I have always liked O1 for knife steel. I know very little about CRU V. I get a little gun shy with new steels.

From a knife steel composition chart, which is an IPhone app: Crucible Metallurgy steel, specifically developed for the knife makers who forge their steel. Heat treatment and forging should be similar to those of W1 and 01 steels.
You should be good to go with Cru Forge V.

I have a custom fixed blade made of O1. I like it and the heat treat the maker put on it is pretty good so it holds an edge for a good while. The only issue I've had is in food prep. Acidic foods cut with the knife will have a strong metallic taste to it. But as far as normal use in the woods and general EDC type tasks it hold up well and sharpens easily.
