The bokk that helped me quite a bit was "How to Make Knives" by Loveless and Barney.

I second the Loveless book, although it is far from perfect. I would also recommend visting www.bullmancutlery.com for any book ordering. prices and service are stupendous.

I agree Chiro,

the Loveless book is lacking, but it gave me way enough to start with. That, complimented by what I've learned on the forums, and from a local knifemaker (Dale Evans) made my first (and only...so far) knife quite satisfactory. I will be shooting a roll of film on an SLR this week and it will include some pics of my first knife. I'll scan them in.

Cool! I haven't gotten into making a blade yet (still too scared about which dang grinder to buy), but I have done lots of kits (four in as many months), and have total respect for people who make and finish knives by hand. Can't wait to see your first offering!
