Hi all,
After hanging out at BF for awhile I finally ordered two books on how to make knives.
"How to Make Knives"
Richard W. Barney, Robert W. Loveless

"Knifemaking : A Complete Guide to Crafting Knives, Handles & Sheaths"
Bo Bergman

I think that this will be a good starting point for me. I would like to start making kitchen knives. Something along the line of a Santuko or Chiefs knife. I want to use ATS-34 steel to start with and then as my skill increases I would like to use other types of steel. For the steel and handle material I will more then likely order from Texas Knife Maker Supply. Any suggestions/advise from the people here would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks a lot.

MrCas,
The book "Step by Step Knifemaking" by David Boye is a great book for starters. It has a great deal of information. Has a lot of pics of his kitchen cutlery too.

Give Sheffield's Knifemakers Supply a call.
They have a larger selection of materials and supplies. Their catalog is $5.00

MrCas,

David Boyes book is great, and the Barney-Loveless book is the knifemakers bible. I would also recommend "The Complete Bladesmith" by Jim Hrisoulas. Even if you don't forge it has lots of info you can use

Hope this helps'

Since Ed sold Texas Knifemakers the prices seem to have gone through the roof. I still shop there if I'm in Houston, but if i'm going to order and pay shipping anyway, I get my stuff from Jantz or Sheffields. The customer service and support from TKS are still great, but the prices just aren't competetive anymore on most stuff.

Thanks for the advise on Texas Knifemaker Supply. I will be sure and check out the other sites for my orders. I got my books yesterday! I have already started to read. Thanks for your input.

Thanks T.J.!! I was wondering why their prices went up.
