Given the restrictive knife laws in UK, I wa swondering of there were custom or craft knife makers there?

Yes lots, some very good one world class as in from the finest smithing tradition but you'll probably not get a knife off of him.

They are still permitted kitchen knives , last I knew . Just can't carry them outside the kitchen ...or whatever ? 🤭

IIRC , kitchen knives are their most popular weapons (lacking any alternative) , so some are probably well made . 😒

Not unless you are on a quest and bring him the legendary materials that are required for him to forge the carving knife of destiny

Then you'll get your knife.

he's never complained about the constabulary coming after him in norfolk

Because of the restrictive laws, most (if not all) of the UK makers produce classic slip joint patterns

Slipjoints are becoming more popular but most UK custom makers are making bushcraft and stalking pattern fixed blades of one description or another.

In answer to the OP knifemaking in the UK is far from done. It continues to grow in popularity every year.
