Knife Making

I been wanting to make knifes for a long time now....An im about to finaly get out of the military and i think this is my chance to try this out. What are the major tools and machines i need to create a good knife?
Also give me any tips if you have any.

The Type of knife im goin to focus on first is a Butterfly knife.

You might want to visit the Maker's forum at the top of the page. The Stickies in the Shop talk section are a good place to start. This link is a good one. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=694673 You should be able to find a lot of answers to your questions there.

Spend some time and read through the forums, there is a ton of information about how to make knives, machinery, and supplies.

I first started making knives a couple years ago and, just like Hmathews and Bufford stated, reading the stickies on posts on this forum helped me a lot. Something else to consider might be to make a fixed blade knife first. Butterfly knives are cool and would be fun to make but you can get your hands dirty and learn a lot without investing much money by starting with a fixed blade knife. Something else to consider would be to look into hammer-ins that might take place near you. These are great places to watch experienced makers work and share their knowledge.
