Had a Busse Basic 7 with coated 1/4" thick blade that I wanted to make 1/8" thick at the spine to make it a better slicer experiment. Took it to a machine shop and told him to grind it down to 1/8". He did .......
...... by grinding it parallel to one of the bevel grinds. So now the whole blade is slanted relative to the handle at about a 15 degree angle and the edge is not in line with the "vertical" axis of the blade.
When I unwrapped it and saw what he had done (taken off the desired 1/8" material from only one side of the spine center line, instead of taking 1/16" off each side), we had a little discussion on how to turn this travesty back into a usable knife. The only thing I could do was have him repeat the operation on the other side of the blade, turning it into a double-edged fighter with a Busse Basic Resiprene-C handle. It wound up with a maximum thickness of a shade under 0.1" thick.
Because of the huge reduction in material, all from the front of the knife, it was insanely light, neutral in balance, and fast in hand. Here are a couple pics of the result, which I sold a while back.
