I have a Spyderco Para 3 with 52100 tool steel and no mater how much I baby it the blade always rusts. Just from sitting in my pocket. Anyone know a shop that can clean the rust and coat the blade in the Los Angeles Area?

I would suggest you get a rust eraser. These work well and are commonly used for Japanese kitchen knives. This way you can do it yourself as needed. Then use camellia oil to protect it

Regular cleaning and oiling is how to control rust. You can't prevent it unless you have the blade coated with something.

You might want to contact Spyderco about having them do it.

Are you sure that it was rust and not patina ? Over time, carbon steels get a patina. They don't shine like silver anymore. It is also rust protection.Do you have picture of that rust ?

Lean into it.

Put a mustard patina on it and oil it.

Then it will not rust easily and it will look great. You can do all kinds of patterns if you like

I love 52100, but imo it just isn't a good choice for a constant humid environment, such as a pocket. I don't even think it takes a patina that well. Mine seem to resist corrosion as much as carbon steel can resist, then finally gives in to no kidding rust, skipping patina. That isn't very scientific i know. My fixed blade hunter is still holding up well after a dozen or more years, and it cuts similar to any cpm steel I've used. The edge just holds up well. But I'd hate to carry it around in my pocket in South East TX.
