I have a Spyderco Para 3 with 52100 tool steel and no mater how much I baby it the blade always rusts. Just from sitting in my pocket. Anyone know a shop that can clean the rust and coat the blade in the Los Angeles Area?

Maybe Ross Cutlery in downtown? Be careful though if you go to check because the area is full of shady people. Last time I went a junkie paisa was approaching me to snatch my wallet and he only stopped when he saw me enter a place full of blades.

Otherwise, why don't you clean it yourself? Use steel wool 0000 for the active rust and then patina the blade with apple cider vinegar. Doesn't sound like a good idea to carry a carbon folding knife inside the pocket...

Well, just out of curiosity I did a Google search for "cerakote Los Angeles" and found a place in Los Angeles called "Los Angeles Cerakote". Apparently they offer Cerakoting for gun and automotive parts. I imagine they could also do a knife blade. They're in Hawthorne.

Look up losangelescerakote.com. They have a phone number and email.

I see there's also a place in Valencia that does Cerakoting.

Heck, there might be several. Just try Google.

I would strongly advise against using steel wool. Tiny particles of steel wool will find their way into the pivot area, liners, and any possible almost-microscopic crevice in your knife. You think you have rust now? Wait until the tiny particles of steel wool start to rust. (Spoiler alert - you won't have to wait long.)

I dont like coatings on my blades.

Just rub it with an oily rag every night. It will eventually develop a nice deep patina that will prevent more rust.

You have 2 choices when it comes to knives. If you want it to stay shiny buy stainless knives.

If you want carbon steel learn to nurture and appreciate patina. Through proper maintenance.
