Hi, my fiance is into knives/blade/swords and all that mambo jambo, he has a pretty fancy collection as well.
I wanted to get him one for his birthday, but i don't know squat about them, so i thought maybe the members on here could suggest some!
he normally buys them off like buck-knives, benchmade and such.
i found a couple, knowing that u share the same taste as him, you might be able to give me feedback.

please help. i'm honestly such a newb at this!

Hi, and Welcome to Bladeforums. He has good taste in knives. I would recommend a Buck Vantage Pro. It really is a great knife, comfortable to use and is a great value. Best of Luck. :)

How about a gift certificate to the knife reseller of his choice? Chances are good that he knows better than you what he would like to have.

Online stores are cheaper, but brick and mortar stores are satisfying in that he can hold a knife before he buys. And the local shop may be your neighbor, too.

Welcome.

There are so many different knives to choose from, so it would be helpful if you can narrow it down. Questions:

1. What's your budget?
2. How would you describe your fiance? Is he a handyman type who loves gadgets? Is he a fan of Dungeons and Dragons? Is he a tactical type who likes weapons? Is he a traditionalist who likes old style material like wood & leather?

The more accurate your description, the better the suggestion you're getting.

thank you all so much for your suggestions!

@revdevil i actually like this one suggestion. I might consider it, becaause i'm pretty sure he doesn't have this one or this style, and hes all for the carry clip type knives

@sep he loves the old style material like wood and leather a lot- and is so not into the fantasy dungeon sort of stuff. Budget id say 100 and under.

It's a great knife, I have the small one and it was reasonably priced. I'm sure anywthing you choose will go over really well. :)

Welcome to the forum!

A nice slipjoint makes a fantastic gift, especially for a knife lover. Check out this link to another section of the forum (Traditional Folders and Fixed Blades) and you might find something he'll enjoy. The guys and gals are very friendly and would love to answer any questions you might have. :thumbup:

For under 100 in a somewhat traditional material, I'd suggest Boker Exskelimoor.

The scales is made of Bog Oak (ancient wood that has been soaking in a swamp for centuries), the liner & pocket clip is made of blue anodized Titanium (premium metal), and the blade is made of decent 440C stainless steel. The opening mechanism is quite unique, pretty much one of a kind.

You read my mind Sep. The Boker Exskelimoors are pretty fantastic knives and I've suggested them many times in many threads. The bog oak scales are really nice, built over the double blue Ti liners, with blue Ti clip, and the blue Ti spacers. Add the satin finished 440c blade (Boker does a fantastic heat treat on their 440c) and you have yourself a really great package at an excellent price. They also offer them in two sizes which is nice. I would recommend the large though because they are easier to open.

Welcome to the forums. You fiancee is going to love receiving the knife no matter what it is.

Thank you all again so much! I went with the Buck vantage pro, and am very happy with the purchase :)

great choice, the vantage pro is a very good knife.

p.s. he will love the vantage pro, but that fact that you put thought and care into it should knock his socks off.

Hey everyone, I'm the lucky guy! ;)

First of all, @princessz thank you!!! :) Luckily for her I hadn't been on BF for a while so I didn't see this lol

@RevDevil thanks for the suggestion of the Vantage Pro, I received it and I love it. Really good size and good blade for utility (I think it's the large version). I like the way the G10 looks, too. Out of the box sharpness was very good, and I always like what Buck does with its S30V (I have an S30V Hartsook which I also like a lot).

@Sep, @Tony8179 the Boker looks very nice...pictures don't seem to do it justice, but after I watched that video I fell in love with the wood used, looks great. Might have to put it on the wishlist... :P Although, I have to admit that opening mechanism doesn't seem all that easy-to-use based on the video.

@Goozle63 Strangely enough I don't have any slipjoints in traditional materials despite the fact that I really like them, so I'm definitely going to spend more time in that subforum.

@Nathan haha keep dreaming :P

@Screwdriver lol definitely!

Thanks to everyone for giving such great suggestions and being so helpful!

Man, I wish I could shoot a short video showing the opening on the Boker Exskelimoor. It opens so smoothly and easily. They don't show how fast the knife can open in the video. I don't open it the way they show in the video. While I may use my thumb, it is more of a flicking motion like how I light a lighter. Either that or I wrap my forefinger around the top and use the protrusion as a flipper. The knife just flies open using either method.

If you're really interested in checking out the knife shoot me an Email. I don't have an extra Exskelimoor, but I do have an extra Exskelibur that I don't mind sending to you so you can check it out. Just let me know.

@Tony8179 Thanks for the information and the generous offer! I think I'll just end up getting an Exskelimoor and trying it out, I have a feeling I'll like it. Thanks
