I just bought my first pair of aftermarket scales (OD green Allen Putman G10 for my PM2). They haven't even arrived yet and I'm fairly certain that I'm hooked and will be buying more scales in the future. However, I have a dilemna. This first pair that I purchased was from a fellow forum member, so I still don't know how to go about aquiring them in the future (assuming I don't buy from a forum member again). Do you buy directly from the manufacterer? Or do you have to wait until knife websites start carrying the scales? On Allen's website he has a few pictures of his products, but no way to buy them from the site. Do you communicate directly with the owner to purchase a pair of scales? I'm sure you gentlemen are tearing your hair out at my sheer ignorance, but I'd greatly appreciate some wisdom.

Many thanks, take care and have a good one. -Blu

Also, if you want an excuse to show off any custom scales you might have, please post some pictures  I'd love to see em.

There are some Allen Putman scales for PM2s on the very large auction site that starts with an E.

I have seen scales and scale blanks on ebay but why not make a set yourself. I want to find a nice set of deer horns I can make some scales for a couple knives I plan to give to my grandsons.

Sometimes aftermarket scales arent the greatest, particularly aluminum ones. i had aluminum ones on a para military,& the blade became off center,& the action on it changed too. ive had this happen more than once, sometimes if its not perfect,or thicker than the original,it might change the original action of the knife.ive shyed away from aftermarket scales because of this.

Hello Navyblu,

I emailed Allen Putman and spoke directly with him. He was very friendly and professional to work with. He even worked with me to only drill the clip mounting holes where I wanted to mount them on my Manix2, and not on the other side of the scale (to clean it up a bit).

He is very fast and really great to work with.

Thanks a lot, I truly appreciate the input. Do you know where I can find a complete list of his available scales? He has examples of his work on his site, but it doesnt seem like it's everything. Again, I truly appreciate the response.

Hey bud, I just now saw your response here. I don't think he has a list of what he has available at this moment. He made mine to order, took about two weeks from original email to the day I put them on. Pretty fast considering all the cnc stuffs he is doing. If the knife you plan to put scales on is pictured somewhere on his site he probably still does it. You just will have to talk with him and figure out what color you want / etc.
