After commenting on another thread I got to thinking about some of the things I have dealt with concerning knives and the use of knives edc and the problems, fixes, remedies, and projects I’ve encountered over the years.
One hack I have used when I ran out of thread locker late one night was using fabric mender. It dries and sets in about five minutes and is cured water safe in an hour. Not only setting the screws but it allows for adjustments after drying. Service life is limited if repeated adjustments are made but if only initial adjustment then it lasts indefinitely. Not only is it for fabric cloth but you can use it on any fabric, leather and other flexible materials. It stays flexible, is washable and dryer safe. It’s stronger than most of the materials I’ve used it on and the cloth or leather will tear before it will. It adheres to about anything that is clean and no oil , grease or chemical that would keep it from curing.
I use it to reinforce my pocket where the pocket clip rubs and fraying occurs. Torn jeans and stitching coming loose or fraying threads. Leather sheath repair when I didn’t have my stitching awls and thread, shoe sole coming loose, zipper on my coat was worn and pulling apart just a dab and it stayed together the rest of the day. I keep a small squeeze bottle of it that has a lockable screw top in my pack. I can’t remember all the things I’ve used it on but that stuff has came in handy so many times for many different things. There are several brands and have different cure time so you will need to be aware of what you are getting. I prefer the quicker setting stuff.
If any of you have other hacks or remedies dealing with knife care and fixes chime in and share it if you’d like. I’m sure there’s plenty I can learn and appreciate it as I’m sure others do as well. Stay safe and have a good week! Les
