I filled an excel sheet with all my knives, with price / estimated price, etc.
I was very surprised to see that in a two year period, I had purchased knives and related tools for more than $5000.
Do you guys consider this normal, or should I shop more?

You earn your "Knife Knut" badge when your tally sheet totals $10,000.00. And, by your score. . .you need to continue your bad habits ~ and brisker than what you've already shown !

Ahh, glad to see I'm on the right track!
I'm into daggers and boot knives, besides tactical folders, so any suggestion would be appreciated!

  • Gerber Mark I, Mark II, or Guardian Backup
  • Gerber ClipLock (this Blackie Collins design is pure function)

  • original Fairbairn-Sykes Commando knife
  • Cold Steel Taipan or the Colloden models

And saving the best for last:
  • Randall Model 2

You qualify Thomas!

It really doesn't have anything to do with how much money you spend, but it certainly is a good confirmation of your affliction.

I'm glad you have come to the right place for professional help. There is no cure. You just have to make yourself as comfortable as you can. Knife Knuttiness is a terminal disease.

You can Never have them all, so you can never achieve total knife satisfaction. Cultivate the brief periods when you are happy with what you have. Savor those tranquil moments, they are the only peace you will enjoy for the rest of your life.

And yes, around here you can probably be considered normal. It All the rest of the people Out There who are the crazy ones...

It was payday today...at least that's what I her..I dunno, I was paying off knife purchases from last week, and ebay fees from the "stuff" we sold on ebay....

My wife asks me, how is it that between us we make X5,000 a year, and yet we have no money?

I remind her that we're saving 20%, we're getting paid in US dollars, and knives are cool...I think she is going for the first two...not sure about the third..lol

That's an interesting exercise! Compared to most of you, I have to maintain far stricter control. By "knife related" I'm counting basically knives and sharpening equipment. I've only spent $45 or so on custom sheaths my whole knife knut life so far, and nothing on display-related items.

The number falls out around $2750 (give or take a few hundred) for me in the last 6 years! Up until then I had one folder (a Buck 110 still have it), and one fixed blade (a Gerber A400 I think), not counting kitchen knives.
