Knife Oiling?

Probably a dumb question but I'm gonna ask anyways.

I put a little oil on a terry cloth towel and wipe down the blades of all my knives every so often (makes me feel better). All of my knives open nice and slick except for my Native III. It is a little easier to open since I got it but it is no where near as smooth as all of my other knives. Would putting a drop of oil on the back of the blade tang (where it catches onto the lock) smooth out the opening/closing of the blade? I'm not sure what the washers are made of and I don't want to damage anything by applying oil to it.

That would be fine. The washers are likely nylatron, and I don't think any commercial lubricant is going to hurt them.

I've always used Ballistol on mine (and about everything else) as it is safe for plastic and leather as well as metal.

Hi if you purchased your native 3 recently i can tell you this after edc'ing it for about a year:

The knive will break in after a couple of months usage.
The thing i did after the first week of having it was cleaning it with dishwasher and hot running tapwater to get rid of production/sharpning swarf that may be around the pivot .
After drying it I put a good spray of WD40 around the pivot and lock and let
it drip out on a towel. After that i rewashed the knive again dried it again and put a drop of lubcricant in the pivot and lock .
After that the knive opened up smoother. A couple of months later after using it it will be smooth.

Remember to keep your knives clean ;)

I agree>> I like Ballistol myself on some folders. On other ones I use Millitec.. If you ever need a high quality grease the Millitec synthetic grease is by far the best I've ever used.

Also you might want to check out the Sentry Solution line of products. Their "Tuf Cloth" is great and has many uses., Good Luck

Thanks everyone. Did a little cleaning and added a drop of oil. Smoothed it out some but I guess I just need to use it more.
