Knife on Norwegian Cruise Lines

I'm going on a cruise to the carribean and plan on doing some snorkelling. I don't have a dive knife so I plan on taking a cheap folding knife (spyderco merlin knockoff) to clip to my booties in the off chance I need one. I prefer to go in the water with a knife of some type. I didn't pay anything for this knife so I am not concerned about confiscation.

I also plan on taking a swiss army knife (recruit, mainly for the tools) that has seen a lot of miles, and again, i dont mind losing it, as i found it almost 8 years ago. It is on my keychain. If not I will be taking an old beat up Jaguar slipjoint folder with the main blade broken off but the square head (straight razor style) blade still intact. It doesn't open fast and doesn't lock but its sharp and again I don't mind losing it if the cruise line prefers i leave it in a trash bin.

Finally, I use a Gerber EAB folder (takes utility blades) as a money clip. Will i have any problems with this? if the liner has a problem with it i can always remove the blade and just take the folder. (i can always get a blade when i get off the boat and remove it when I get back on)

Does anyone have experience with Norwegian lines? Ive read that a lot of lines are hit or miss with taking a pocket knife and most of them secure dive knives when you are on the boat and let you take them when you go ashore.

I appreciate any info or input.

Pete

I was on an NCL cruise to Europe this past summer. I had a small folding pocketknife with me. I put it in my luggage to get it onboard. I did not carry it on as you need to go through metal detectors and who wants that thing going off?

I carried my knife in my pocket when on board and when walking off the ship. When I was returning, I would take it out of my pocket and put it in my small carry bag or in my wife's purse which went through the x-ray scanner but not a metal detector. It was never questioned.

It's been a couple of years since I've been on a cruise, but I've been on several NCL cruises in the Caribbean. Folding pocket knife in luggage and large dive knife with my dive gear with no problems. I think they were far more worried about stopping people from bringing cheap shore brought liquor aboard to drink instead of spending money at the bars ;) However, like I say, it's been a couple of years so it's worth checking with them.
