i go for holding the top of the bag and a horizontal slash these days .

do you consider it a good test for your knife ?
ever use an "overkill" tool to do the job ?

is this a dumb thread or what ?
sorry if its in the wrong place :D

Your thread is more sensible than many.
I haven't yet taken a knife to a bag of chips, but I open my biscuits (you guys say cookies I think) with a knife.

well, some bags are near gorilla-proof to rip open with bare hands alone.
so, yeah! for these i call upon the working wonders of my humble pocket razor, the food safe sak.

"ever use an "overkill" tool to do the job ?"

Not when opening a bag of chips with a Case peanut in CV. :D

The ultimate in lazy isn't in using a knife to open a bag of chips. It's when you open a bag of chip with a knife as part of your knife maintenance and using the chip oil residue to prevent corrosion on the CV. :D

I generally hold the bag at the top and slice the entire top inch off. If you can't do it in one pass then get stropping!! Lol

I have to open heat sealed plastic bags at work and this is more or less the method I use. I also use it at something of a litmus test. The edge "should" make a smooth cut. I say should but very, very few of my knives can make that cut cleanly. Most leave the cut edge of the bag ridgy. I don't know how else to describe the cut.

I guess a 45 deg cut off corner might gain respect from
Non knifers ?
Its got to make a clean cut or strop for sure !

Grasshopper, When you can take the doritos from my hand, it will be time for you to leave and buy more soda. :D

The more chips I eat out of the bag, the more I cut off at the top. I hate the rustle that those bags make when I fumble around at the bottom for the last crumbs.

Funny you mention it, ever since getting the Lansky last xmas I've been more on top of keeping my knives sharp (doing it freehand never worked out as well), and I've found I do use the bag opening as an indicator of whether that knife is due or not...

Properly you cut the bag with the point , then slash ! I was asked to open a bag ,tried by hand but that wouldn't work [one try ]. I instinctively whipped out my EDC and point first punctured the bag then slashed it across the width . Very fast no fuss.
She saw my small EDC and said 'that's a big knife' , I answered I have a bigger one in the truck if you need it !!!

I usually lay the bag of chips down then just stab it repeatedly. That makes it kind of tough to close the bag up afterwards though...:D

Pics or it didnt happen !
Nice vid btw , origami style ?
I did see a good life hack the other day .
If you want a bag of chips to stand up while in use
tuck the bottom corners in on themselves . Forms a base .
