Knife Ordering Disappointment

My latest knife order is now cancelled and I am disappointed. On January 9 I ordered my Al Mar Falcon Ultralight, Mirror Finish, Plain Edge (1003UBK1) from a well known on-line store. They waited until I called today to tell me that they don't have any and can't get any more. Sheesh, they even have them "on sale" on their website :).

Anyway, I'd appreciate anyone out there who knows where I can get one dropping me an email. Nothing special about the knife, I just like the look of it with the mirror finish blade. I have a Hawk from the same series and want the larger version.

Meanwhile, please share your knife ordering disappointment or success stories with me so I don't feel so bad. Thanks!

Well, I'm bummed that I can't seem to find any CRK Sebenzas or Busse Satin Jacks on closeout anywhere for less than $100.00.

All kidding aside, I've been pretty lucky with online ordering.

The only current bummer (and of absolutely NO fault of the vendor--just William-Henry's backlog I guess) is the long wait for my William-Henry S05-C from 888knivesrus.

Sent from a different source -probably- I had to wait a few weeks for mine too. Be prepared -it's SMALL! ;) But you'll like it.
I'd suggest treating the scales with guitar-fretboard oil -or anything similar. This cheered mine up a bit, the wood looked a tad dull. I chose the same wood as yours, looking at the "C".

Actually, he did order from us - that's our site that he was referring to.

It appears Al Mar has discontinued the mirror finish models, and our site has to be updated. This is clearly our fault - I've been busy looking for the product in question but haven't been able to track them down anywhere.... hence the reason we didn't ship it yet, or contact him (because we were still looking).

because we were still looking

That makes a huge difference and I owe you an appology for mischaracterizing the situation. My understanding from my brief phone conversation with a member of the 1SKS staff was that you don't have the particular Al Mar knife and can't get them. I should have given 1SKS the benefit of the doubt since you handled my previous orders carefully and quickly (including an out-of-stock item). I was wrong and I am sorry.

p.s.: I am still disappointed at not getting the knife... ;)

Hey, no worries - it's my fault for not contacting you sooner.

We're actually installing a new software backend to better track pending orders and working out the bugs, but we're striving hard to further improve our customer service.

Please let me know if you have any other problems - we'll get you taken care of.

Dear Pete,

Take my advice, forget it and order a Kershaw Chive instead.

Yeah, it's boring all right, but it'll impress you with it's incredible speed and user friendlines (if that's even a word).

Straightforward power and speed, with a look that says 'love me', you'll never regret it!

Don't say I was right, cos I know I am.

Have fun!

thats not to bad, I placed a order with bestknives.com a week before x-mas, i wanted it by x-mas. I placed my order and selected that it be shipped fedex next day to canada(im in canada). And they decided that since that would cost me too much(I knew it would cost alot and was willing to pay it) they would ship it USPS instead, they did this without contacting me at all. Needless to say it never made it by x-mas, and when i wanted to return it they wanted to make me pay to ship it back plus a 15% restoking fee or some crap like that. So consider yourself lucky. That was my FIRST online knife order. Now i buy everything from a canadian online store(www.knifezone.ca) and havent had any problems, these guys actually know what customer service is and CALL ME when they need to know something or want to tell me something about my order.

I can't really get specific but I can say that it isn't that unusual to be a little disappointed when you buy knives sight unseen or have them made for you. And sometimes you are very pleasantly surprised.
The one disappointment I will share was my Applegate-Fairburn production folder. A complete POS - the lock would not hold, amongst other problems.
Anyway, you ain't alone. Part of the game, I guess.
