Knife out of saw blade?

I am shaping a knife out of a sawzall blade and I was wondering if this is even worth the time. This is my first knife even thinking about making a knife but I really want to have a knife that I made. I was wondering if any of you guys have any tips for quenching either this steel or O-1 (I may practice on this blade and then order some O-1 to actually attempt a knife) I have searched this forum and read some great tips on quenching 5160, 1084, etc... but I was wondering if there are any general guidelines that I might use in this project. Thanks in advance, and I apologize if I am that stupid guy who asks the question that's already been answered. (Lord knows there has been enough of that)

in my opinion I think it's too thin for you to be happy with it after you put work into it.
and do you know what steel it is??

look here and if you think you can use some
I'll send you a small piece to try, if you want to pay the Shipping.
Priority Mail costs me $3.89 with Confirmation.
look at the heat treatment specs on the page..

I've used a sawzall blade(the metal cutting ones that are all HSS, not bi-metal) to make a kitchen knife, and it holds an edge practically forever. I ground it in the hardened state and kept it cool, and it is extremely wear resistant. Grinding on it made grinding on D2 planer blades seem like butter. I think the steel is M2, but I'm not positive about that. It's much too thin for anything other than a kitchen or filet knife, but it's working great in the kitchen, cutting up meat and vegatables. It will chip on hard surfaces like bone, though. I don't have a clue about heat treating any HSS.

Thanks Dan!! I really appreciate it, so do you want me to just email you my address? Just let me know what method you prefer for payment and I'll get right on it.
