Okay so Im going to be at the Air Force Academy next year and going through basic as well. Im pretty proficient with a blade and I have many of them. Im looking to get a new knife that is a good EDC'er. Ive narrowed it down between the Spyderco Centofante 3, Spyderco Delica 4, or the SOG Twitch II I need a knife that isnt going to be weary in the face of a little abuse. Its mostly going to be used to cut up fruit, cut rope, whittle, and just other basic cutting tasks. I really want to find the best knife that will do the job but not put a dent in my bank. Id kove some advise or maybe a list of knives to look at and consider. Any advise will be helpful. I know you guys are the experts in this area. Thanks guys!

i have a sog and i love it... holds a great edge, is pretty tough, and they have good customer service

delica 4 is the short answer.
i live minutes from the AFA and one of my best buddies is a plebe there now.
i would prefer a benchmade mini griptilian personally. a kershaw leek would look classy in ur dress blues....
afa has the same policies as the general Colorado statute whch is anything nonauto under 3.5inches. good luck and GO ARMY!!!

cheap, high quality, tough, good for everything you listed and a million other things... get a SAK :p you can pick up a victorinox tinker for under $15 online. If you're looking for something with one hand opening and a more "tactical" feel then just about anything from spyderco, benchmade or kershaw would suit you well. If it were me I would prefer the SAK or a Leatherman considering you'll be away from home and without access to your own tools and gadgets for a long time. I've found that when I EDC my spydercos, benchmades or kershaws I might use them once a day, but every time I drop one of my SAKs in my pocket it gets used every 10 minutes :D when I was a kid my knife addiction started with a SAK, as I grew older it progressed through more tactical knives made with expensive steels and materials and I've rarely had cause to use them except for cutting open boxes and letters. Somehow I've made my way back to the SAK and I couldn't be happier. My $20 SAK can do everything my $100-300 knives do and usually does it better because it includes the right tools for just about any job.

Thanks man! I just saw the griptilian not 2 minutes ago after posting this. Thanks for the info. Ill probably be getting bossed around by your buddy next year. :-)

What do yall think about the Benchmade Mini-Griptilian D2 plain edge knife? From what Ive seen its a pretty solid knife. Any advice?

I would recommend the new Spyderco Sage. The fact that it's an open construction makes it easy to clean if necessary. And it has a very good steel.
I don't have it, I have the older Caly3 in VG10, and I love it. It's obvious that the Sage is inspired by the Caly, and it also seems that it's just a bit better.
Both would be excellent edcs, I would now choose the Sage.
