We are a special breed. We believe that weapons/tools are not the cause of crime. I'm so thankful for a place (BF) where I can express myself FULLY. Thanks to the man who started this place.

I found BF while looking for my next knife (a Buck/Strider 880). End of story. I cannot put into words how much this forum has helped me.

My thanks goes out as well.

Without the forum I would not know anything about sharpening knives or knife steels.

My maintenance skills and general knowledge have improved a lot since I first joined.

The forums are a better place with your contributions, Charlie Mike.

(Even if you do like to destr...um...modify perfectly good knives.) ;)

This place is the largest group of friends I've never met. ;) :D

I lurked here for a while, then finally joined. Later I went to a Gold membership, so's to help out a little financially. The best part is not just learning about everything knife related, you get people's life experiences (regarding knives) as well. To me, that's just as important as any magazine write-up. Add to that, the fact that guys like Sal Glesser, Joe Houser, Phil Gibbs, and others regularly contribute, and this place is even more special.

thx - cpr

I would also like to say thanks to those that make this place possible. I only have one friend that is even remotely into knives, all the rest look at me like I'm nuts when I tell them how many I have, or get into a discussion of different steel types, ect. But it's nice to have a place like this to talk about all the stuff that gets knife lovers like myself excited, or to get help with a problem, or just to chat with like minded people. I too have been helped in more ways that I can relate. This is the only forum that I've joined that I've stuck with for longer than six months.

So again, thanks to those who take care of this place, and to all of the members who put up with me on a regular basis! :D

Great forum with a lot of great people. Sure have learned a lot here, and hopefully helped a few people as well:)

I recently started a new job, after 11 months of unemployment. I am now a Sheet Metal Mechanic at Tinker AFB, working on Navy E-6 aircraft. I put some type of knife catalog on my tool box every day, and there are people glancing at it all day long.

Today I had Cold Steel's catalog showing, and too many questions for any one individual to answer in a 10 hour day. But, I did my best, and quite possibly won some new converts.

I now am known as the person to go to for knife related questions on my new crew.:D

I LIKE BEING A KNIFE PERSON!

I have always been a knife person. Have carried various tools since the age of 5. I can not think of any other forum that supplies the same amount of info as this one. I do blame you all though for educating me enough to be on a constant quest for steel. If only my bank account was as willing as I was. I know just enough to get myself into trouble:D. Great site, great people. What more could you ask for?

I've always been a knife person as well, and it's nice to have a place to get feedback from other users, as well as the general atmosphere. I'd thank everybody, but I simply don't know who (other than spark) is responsible for having BladeForums. So, thanks Kevin :thumbup::thumbup:

I don't know many other knife people in real life, other than the very few forumites I've actually met. I have become friends with an ABS mastersmith but that might be about it. There are other forums I frequent and I lurk much more than I post, but yes, the BF community is awesome!

as a recent recovering alcoholic the forum has helped me to replace the huge hole left in my life when i quit drinking after 40 yrs. in general the guys try to help you with questions on knives, alloys, qualities desirable or undesirable in various makes & models. a great bunch of people with only a tiny minority of sour grapes.the life experiences are also very enriching.

Weapons and tools aren't the cause of crimes? Thought they were lol.

Only messing around. I love this forum. I forget how I even found it, probably was trying to find a review of a knife I was going to buy and stumbled a thread here. A little over 800 posts later, I am very grateful for this site. It has shown me a ton and continues too. Also helps remind me there are some really great people out there, despite the fact that most around me would prove the opposite. Worst thing about this place is the fact that we won't get to meet most of the people we like on here in person. Could spend years posting on here and never actually meet the guy on here you've become friends with lol. Definitely a great site.

I've been into knives for a long time. My mom and step-dad used to get us small, cheap lockbacks from the smokeshop and use them as stocking stuffers, and I remember getting my first flea market 110. For a few years, though, knives didn't really play a big part in my life.

A few years ago, I decided to buy a knife for some unknown reason. I don't know what the compulsion was caused by, but I knew I had to buy a knife. I looked online a bit, discovering KnifeCenter, and looked through a lot of knives. At the time I knew absolutely nothing about knives, but I saw assisted opening ones and as a noob thought, "Wow, that's badass! It's like a switchblade!" I bought the cheapest one that appealed to me, a Kershaw Chive. I had good taste for knowing absolutely nothing about knives.

I then began looking for knives that were mall-ninja, and knives with the biggest blade for the buck. I found the Kershaw ET. I commend Kershaw for designs that appeal to knife noobs due to the cool factor, while still using good materials and quality fit and finish.

A few knives later, I realized something: bigger isn't better. These big knives were harder to carry, and I found a small blade, anything over 2" or so, is perfectly viable as an EDC. Then I realized something else: black, synthetic handles, coated blades, and other various tacti-cool features aren't all that great.

I began moving into more slipjoints and gentlemanly type folders, and now I've come to appreciate a wide variety of blades for aesthetic and useability reasons, not just tacti-cool features. I now appreciate good blade steel, fit and finish, and materials over black coated blades and assisted opening (not that they are mutually exclusive), and this forum has a lot to do with that transition.
