Knife philosophy: Jawin' at the barbershop..

2Knife -- the three most notable examples of Diversity and Experimentation that come to my mind are WW Cronk, Lloyd Hale and Wolfe.

Makers doing "pattern work" are just too numerous to mention but then again, everyone normally starts by making use of ideas of others and then as skill and interests evolve may find the path to Diversity and Experimentation. Not always however as many makers are quite content to produce similar knives over a career due to either interest, ability or customer desire.

I happen to like knives that are made following patterns that have been made for years, and knives that come solely from the artistic expression of the person that created them.

This is true for me too but my passion is limited to knifemaker's
artistic expressions that emotionally touch something inside me...

All the best,

well I think that means you're an Art lover, David!
Good Art is always emotive.
But there is also a place where the craftsmanship of a fine tool belongs in human culture.
Sometimes the lines can be blurred effectively so as to bring the Art and craft into synergy.
Where does history fit in? Good Art makes history irrelevant, while drawing on its depth. Art and history cannot exist independently, they require each other for meaning.

There is a vast difference between a simple copy and a similar creation by an artist who has been able to understand the emotion of the original maker and follow up by making his own statement that is exactly what he intends to say.
