Knife Podcasts

I didn't even know a knife podcast existed until now , I'll check out one of your links after being on these forums

Are these podcasts supported by advertising?

If so, I'll just keep my business here.

I really enjoy the Mark of the Maker. Haven’t been able to get into Knifenuts, although I’ve tried several times.

Preferred blades is not ad supported, it’s just something a couple of guys who like knives and make knives put together for the community at large.

Podcasts and forums are not really competing media types, and I don’t think anybody would suggest Participating in one at the detriment of another.

This. You can't read the forum while driving... and if you did... you might need to use your "preferred blade" to puncture your airbag or cut yourself out of your seat belt :D

Shhh.....Some of the people here might be tempted to try that if you put the idea in their heads....

I like the knifenuts podcast, though I wish they would produce episodes more often than "pseudo-biweekly". It's hard to earnestly complain about a problem like that, though.

Cool. Not a fan of seeing BF being used to promote other folks' money making ventures whether they are "competing media types" or not.

Glad the drivers enjoy them, I am a mass transit guy, so I have the option of podcast or forum.

So my question is this, do these podcast guys know more than the folks here? They I might pod them. But right now, I go with BF as the Gold Standard. But, as I mentioned, I do have options.

Thanks for adding "Knife Guys". Mark of the Maker and Knifenuts are both great and each feature insights into the knife ecosystem from a nice range of participants. I enjoy the interviews with the makers and their views on interactions with enthusiasts and the industry in general. I believe many of them interact on Bladeforums as well. With so few knife-related entertainment options (wow, first world problems!) and the spontaneous influence of social media in our hobby, they are kind of hard to ignore. All IMO and stuff...

I really enjoyed the Behind the Blade podcast but it's been MIA for a while now. Knife Talk is also interesting and is focused mostly on kitchen and bushcraft knives with very little discussion of folders. Mark of the Maker is easily the best of the bunch though as they really go in depth with their topics.

A couple things on this. First is the Preferred Blades podcast (the one I am on) is not sponsored, however I know some others are. Even the ones that are sponsored are not significant "money making ventures". Most sponsorships come by way of sending the podcast gear to check out.

The other thing about your objection that is curious to me is that BF is set up (by way of paid subscription- which I pay gladly) for knifemakers and others to promote money making ventures (aka- knife making, and knife selling, ect..).

Lastly, most of the guys doing these podcasts (myself included) do for a genuine love for the subject matter and see it as service to the knife community. If there is some sponsorship with some of the podcasts I am rather certain it does not come close to paying for the amount of work and effort it takes to produce a 1-2 hour podcast. For most of us, these are a labor of love.

Of course! If you, as a paid member, are promoting your venture (or podcast)...that's great.

So, not doubt you can appreciate why it bothers me when people try to get some sneaky free promotion in!

Gear Geeks Live can be informative, but unlike other podcasts I only listen if the topics are of interest to me

Another knife podcast I stumbled upon recently is called Slicey Dicey Podcast. Like most of the others, I listen more for the entertainment value while doing other things.

* This post sponsored, in part, by mass transit readers who don't listen to podcasts (sorry marcinek, couldn't help myself). :p
