knife prep & storage

here's what's up. after carefully prepping my knives for storage with renaissance wax, i rolled each one up in polyethylene foam with several bags of silica gel. then i taped the package tight with packaging tape.
after checking the knives recently, i was aghast to find a few with corrosion on the blade. it was very limited(to a specific area, or two), but nevertheless...not good on a costly custom blade!!
could it be the bag(s) of silica gel did their job, but because of this the moisture they absorbed was held against the blade and caused the corrosion?
anyone out there with a proven solution to this?
(funny how some of the knives came out just fine; not a speck)
also, how to remove the corrosion without bunging-up the blade?

thanks for any suggestions.

Years ago I saw a thread which told a story of a Randall Made collector who ruined his collection by storing it with silca gel. I think the moral of the story was that yes, silca gel traps moisture, that trapped moisture can lead to rust.

IIRC, the thread also talked about products that actually do the job that you were hoping silca gel would do.

As for removing rust spots, I like Maas polish or Flitz.
