Here is a little knife I like to call Micro Fighter. The blade is made of 11,520 layers of 1084 and 15N20 in a complex radial mosaic pattern. The blade is about 5" long, I will ad pictures of the knifes progress as I work on it.

Thanks for looking and enjoy.

Here is the blade rough ground and ready for heat treating.

We all know that, Keith!;):D

Am I making the pictures too large? I have Hi speed Internet so I don't know if it takes to long to upload for some people or not.

Here I am softening the tang and ricasso.

Here I’ve taken a Norton India sharpening stone and used it to get the convex edge perfectly flat, especially near the ricasso where it is hard to get it flat with a slack belt on the grinder. I also used the stone to flatten the clip which is also hard to get flat on the grinder.

Here is the blade, hand sanded.

Here I did a quick etch to see what the pattern would look like. The reason I am not etching the blade all the way at this point is because I don’t want to worry about scratching the blade wile I’m working on the rest of the knife. The pattern came out great!

I know that all these compliments are making you sick but I really like the shape of that. The pattern looks clean as hell to.

Another great damascus blade shaping up, Kyle. Thanks for sharing the process. Your picture size is about right...large enough for sure. Coming along nicely.

Kyle, your progression threads gotta be about the best around. Maybe 'cause you're in the "SHOW ME" state? And your Damascus, wow!

ahh, so that's how the internal pins work!

OK, here are two more photos. Please bear with me, it is hard to show you what I am doing without making a video or taking a couple hundred pictures at this stage. The thing that is taking the most time is the fit on everything.

Thanks for the complements and thanks for looking.

Here is a photo of some of the inside progress.

Here I've shaped the guard and ferrule a little closer to the final shape.

I don't know about that guard, man. Looks a little clunky;)
Love the thread, Kyle. Thanks so much!

Great thread Kyle. I do have a question in viewing the construction of the handle. Perhaps it is just my lack of knowledge, but what holds the tang securely inside the frame of the handle?

Are there additional pins that have not been shown yet?

Thanks,
Peter

Epoxy will hold the tang in the handle securely. The tang goes about 7/8 way through the handle this will also help. I will have one 18K Gold pin in the handle but it certainly doesn't need it. Thanks for asking.

Hey, that ivory looks familiar ;)

Good thread, Kyle!

Oh, and yes, your pictures are too big. Not all of have highspeed.

A couple of the first pictures on this thread disappeared somehow, I think I know how to fix it so this will not happen again.

Here I've etched the blade.

Here you can see how I've filed away as much of the inside of the frame as possible without weakening anything. The reason for this is to reduce weight.

I have etched the fittings and am ready for the filework. This photo shows how I've rounded the corners on the handle.
