Knife question - may or may not be Schrade related

OK, I don't know if Schrade made one or not, but thought I'd start here where I know people. Saw an auction on the bay for a "Left Handed Whittler". I've never heard of one, but then again, I'll be the first to admit I don't know everything. Given his starting price on it, I'm guessing it's not a joke. Can anybody fill me in a bit on this, and did Schrade ever make one?

Thanks,

Dave

Dave, pull out an 8OT or similar knife and hold it like that guy's pictures show, same configuration, right? Note how he shows the pile side in both pictures, just flips the knife over. That's because it'd be obvious that you'd have to hold the knife in your left hand to open that master blade, just like any other knife. that kind of hogwash turns up quite frequently, and I don't know of any maker besides Case who actually marketed a left hand knife. He's got quite an imagination with that story as well. It's a $5 knife being pushed as a $250 treasure, hopefully no one falls for it. The best test; if you have to hold a knife in your right hand in order to open the master blade with your left thumbnail, it was PROBABLY made as a left hand knife, and is likely worth just as much as its right hand counterpart.

Thanks Eric! I didn't pick up on the fact he was showing the pile side in both pics. Not very observant at any time, let alone this time of night. Hope nobody else buys into his BS.

Shawn, they don't look kindly at linking to active auctions here. Just go and do a search for "left" under "knives, swords, and blades" and it'll be pretty obvious. I did ask who the maker was and informed the seller that it's not a lefty knife, and the only reply I got was that it's a Chicago Cutlery brand. So it's basically a serpentine stockman that's worth whatever Chicago Cutlery knives are going for at the moment.
