Knife Reassembly Issue

Hey all I am hoping some of the experts on this forum can help me out. I have a Buck vantage pro that I bought a while ago from the exchange. Love the knife but I decided to take it apart and give it a good cleaning. Glad I did because it had rust on the liners and it definitely needed removed. Anyway to cut to the chase when I went to reassemble it I ran into a problem. The screws that go through the backspacer for the pocket clip and the one that goes through the stand off won't grip into the other scale anymore. So now when I put it together it separates from it self and the only thing holding it together is the pivot screw. I be screwed it together without the spacers in and the screws do hold. It's like the holes won't grip the little bit of screw that pokes through the backspacers but a little deeper and it's fine. Any suggestions on how to fix the issue? I would rather not send it to Buck because of the long turn around time and costs. Thank you for any help you can provide as always it is very much appreciated.

Possibly you didn't get the torx screws back into the same holes?? Just guessing. Or perhaps find some longer threads with the same thread twist at a hardware, etc. Commonly the pocket clip screws are different lengths than the scale screws. Might see if that is your problem. Just guessing at possiblilities. Hard to diagnose a problem without actually seeing it. Hopefully others will have some other/better ideas.

Thank you for your suggestions they are very much appreciated. I double checked the holes and screws I was using and they are both correct. Do you or anyone else know the screw measurements I would need for this? I tried googling the screw sizes but came up with nothing. It could be my google-fu isn't strong enough but I am not sure. Thanks for any help.

Try posting in the Buck forum or go to the Buck website and email them about screw sizes. They may (?) send you some new ones (or not).

I have to say, while I have a lot of reservations about Emersons (chisel grind, steel and blade geometry:poop:) they are designed to be adjustable with simple tools. Other makers could take some tips in that regard.

I agree at least you can easily replace screws etc. when needed.

Buck has a chat line on their website they helped me out when I needed replacement screws for my Marksman, maybe they can help you.
certainly worth a try. Bucks warrantee service is legendary, and believe me you are not their first customer to have a problem after dissasembling a knife.

I wasn't aware of their chat line. I'll definitely have to check that out. It appears after looking again that the last few threads on the screws are rounded off. This would explain why I can't get a grip with spacers but can without. Thank you

I was given an imported Buck stockman by my grandson. It was only about a $10 knife but had sentimental value because of where it came from. The shield fell out and become lost so I contacted Buck to see if a replacement was available fully expecting to pay as much for it as the knife cost. About 2 weeks later not one but two replacement shields came with a note thanking me for being a Buck customer. So from this experience I am positive you can get the help you need by contacting Buck.
