Knife reassembly issue

I tried posting this in general and it was suggested I try the Buck lovers and experts to see if they can help me with the issue. So here it goes... I have a Buck vantage pro that I bought a while ago from the exchange. Love the knife but I decided to take it apart and give it a good cleaning. Glad I did because it had rust on the liners and it definitely needed removed. Anyway to cut to the chase when I went to reassemble it I ran into a problem. The screws that go through the backspacer for the pocket clip and the one that goes through the stand off won't grip into the other scale anymore. So now when I put it together it separates from it self and the only thing holding it together is the pivot screw. I screwed it together without the spacers in and the screws do hold. It's like the holes won't grip the little bit of screw that pokes through the backspacers but a little deeper and it's fine. Any suggestions on how to fix the issue? I would rather not send it to Buck because of the long turn around time and costs. Thank you for any help you can provide as always it is very much appreciated.

Update 1) I verified the screws I am using are the right ones and in the right holes. This was a suggestions from my general thread.

Quserion 2) does anyone know the screw lengths of the ones I need so maybe I can purchase longer ones if I can't figure out how to make them fit right?

I tried a pair of rubber tipped clamps but not sure if it provided enough downward force being I had to keep it off the screw head to try and tighten it.

I even briefly considered getting a bastard file and taking a little metal off the spacers so the screws will go in lower. However messing with tolerances and such doesn't seem wise to me.

Looks like you could slightly counter sink the screw heads into the handle. I have not had one but I just throwing it out ther as a possible solution. Good luck

When all else fails, put all the pieces in a plastic bag and sent it to Buck. It will come back like new.

Thank you I hadn't thought of that it just may work. Any idea on exactly how to do it into the metal liners?

Even if I disassembled and voided their warranty? The fear is they will say they can't fix it and try and get me to buy another one. Granted 50% off but If buying another one is the case id rather try myself rather than have them just trash it.

Upon further inspection it appears as though the threads on the bottom of all three screws have been rounded or shortened. This would explain the lack of grip I am getting. I'll have to check under 10x magnification tomorrow. If so all this frustration over what amounts to needing new screws. Guessing Buck still has the liability thing with screws correct? Anyone know the size so I can get them from a parts provider? Or if I send it into Buck will they replace the screws etc?

You should be able to procure those screws from any well stocked hardware store. A screw w/ good threads and a fraction longer may be all you need. Take them in and match them up. Then sand off the excess. Get a spare or 2. DM
