Knife Recommendation?

I had some recent dental work done and now I have to start cutting up my food into small pieces for awhile:( I need a good food slicer (apples, carrots, etc). My initial thought was a Spyderco Military in S30v, any other suggestions?
 
The military's a good one. Opinel, Svord peasant knife are also good. Just about any thinly ground blade really.
 
A blender has multiple blades for slicing and does a wonderful job :)
I have a spyderco centofante that I use in the kitchen.
 
Opinel makes some great kitchen knives; stainless or carbon blades (and are inexpensive). They will take a real razor edge.

Forget slicing! You need TOTAL DOMINATION! A Demko AD-10, with its .190 blade stock and diamond hard TriAd lock up, will PULVERIZE YOUR APPLES!!!

Or, I mean... Yeah. An Opinel is probably a good call.
 
I cut up some pickles for a sandwich with my Stretch today and was quite impressed at how effortlessly it sliced through them. Highly recommend a stretch.

Do you not have any kitchen knives in your home? Pretty much any inexpensive kitchen knife will cut food.
 
All I have is plastic forks, spoons and knives!! I just moved here and refuse to buy any kitchen stuff:) I still use paper bowls, plates and plastic cups..as buying anything permanent means I have failed!( I am only here for a year)
 
Personally, I would stay far away from a folder for any heavy food prep. An apple here or there is fine, but if it's your main knife for daily kitchen work you will want a fixed blade. Folding knives are more difficult to clean and keep sanitary. Not sure how I'd go about cleaning my spyderco after slicing raw chicken. I've seen people using a bk 15 for food prep and its shape makes it quite the slicer. Handle scales are easily removed and cleaned. No small pivots for salmonella or E.coli to hide out in. It really depends on how involved you are with your meals. Just cutting up your TV dinner? a folder will work. Preparing thanksgiving dinner? not so much.
 
A good slicer is a Spyderco Endura with FFG - price is reasonable and is razor sharp!

Opinel makes sense. I have one that works well every day in the kitchen. My wife loves it. I don't think it makes sense to spend much money on a knife for such a short time period. Opinels are cheap...$15 or so.
Remember that you are looking for a thin blade...it slices better.
 
A Millie is perfect. The curve of the edge and the angle of the blade compared to the handle, is perfect for eating and food prep in my experience. I EDC one for about eight years now. I eat all the time with my Millies. And it is fun to open, like Lockup stated. Also stated before and less fun to open but an even better slicer is an Opinel. Since the Opinel costs nothing, get both. For an Opinel, I suggest an INOX 10 (based on having an 8 and a 9).
